 abstract={The purpose of this article is to present the meaning of investment funds, which are one of the main institutional investors in economy. Investment funds as a broker bring together the entities possessing the capital surpluses with entities submitting the demand on the capital - help in effective allocation of capital in economy. Throughout their functioning, they are contributing to finance the economic development and also to develop individual segments of economy. In this article the author describes how investment funds gain the capital and in which way the gathered savings are transferred in source of funding economy development. Moreover, he presents the share of investment funds in Polish securities market.},
