abstract={Building integrated international logistics systems providing suitable operational parameters acts as an instrument to enhance international trade and to sustain international development process of enterprises, sectors, and economies. Integration of national and local transport systems is the basic issue here. However, it's a long lasting and complex process dealing with technological, communication and telematics, organizational, and legal standards that are mandatory in use. Fortunately, consistent transportation policy in the European Union has already led to unified regulations in the field except for technological standards concerning infrastructure, especially railway infrastructure. This makes adverse conditions for integrating European logistics systems that more and more urgently need effective means of transportation. Road transport doesn't provide today's needed capacity in international operations. In order to overcome technological barriers of railway systems integration a new common international rail traffic management system has been developed. The ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System), as it has been named, consists of three subsystems: the ETCS (European Train Control System) that provides engine driver with all must-have information to control the train; the GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communication - Railway) that replaces current analogue rail communication systems with innovative digital era solutions; and the ETML (European Traffic Management Layer) that blows rail traffic managers to plan optimal train routes under various constraints.
