Due to complex nature of processes taking place in economy, so also in the area of public finance, it is impossible to express these interdependences in a deterministic way. Owing to econometric models it is possible to obtain better understanding of phenomena and processes taking place in economic and social spheres, as well as the construction of prognoses and the assessment of results of Polish economy alternative variants. The study presents general characteristics of problems connected with the phenomena modelling in the area of public finance and includes selected econometric models which take into consideration concepts and processes accompanying public finance. Econometric modelling of public finance is used, among others, to detect quantitative relations between social-economic phenomena which influence the demand for public goods. Econometric analysis refers to actual results of policy or events on the level of income, expenditures or debt of public finance sector.
